Reading Services
Did you know that reading is not a natural process? Students need systematic instruction when learning to read, and different approaches and methodologies have sometimes left our students with gaps in their learning. At Spark Literacy Center, parents will receive a free consultation where a conversation will take place as to the areas of concern their child is experiencing with their reading.
Below is a list of the available reading services. Case reports are provided upon request for an additional fee. They provide a detailed picture of areas of strength and weakness.
-
Free Consultation
Thirty-minute consultations can be in-person (at my Wheaton office) or virtual. During the consultation, you will learn about my structured literacy approach and research-based curriculums used at my center. I will also gather important information regarding your child’s specific literacy needs and answer any questions you may have.
-
Assessment Session
Our first session together is a comprehensive assessment of your child’s literacy needs. Using several universal screeners, I evaluate your child’s phonemic awareness, phonics skills, spelling, oral reading fluency, and comprehension. A curriculum-based writing assessment is also included, ensuring we have a complete understanding of your child's literacy profile.
-
One-on-one Reading Intervention Sessions
Your child's reading intervention sessions will be one-on-one with a licensed reading specialist, ensuring they receive the personalized attention they need. These sessions are tailored to the specific needs of your child, making them 50 minutes of focused, individualized learning.

Progress Monitoring
Students' progress is monitored throughout their weekly lessons and throughout the semester/year. Students are reassessed using Universal Screeners throughout the year.
